Today I spent time with James at Phil's lab making the Pololu instrument driver work for the first time with the Pololu chip, driven by a NI USB DAQ 6221.
James made the physical connections between the DAQ card and the chip.
I programmed the LabView program.
At the end of the day we had a first complete LabView driver prototype, being able to control a stepper motor at constant speed, in "Move" and "Jog mode". The speed is adjustable. We used "clock out" for that.
Next steps will be to make another driver that can work with 2 motors at the same time. Some coordination between the motors is required.
Another idea is to have the driver move the motor with speed and acceleration profiles. In that case, the "clock out" function is not good enough, we would need to use a digital out that can change frequency, or even use an analog out...
